In soccer scoreboards news, we will look at which major European league is current the best.
Soccer scoreboards Italian football – Italian clubs had consistently attracted the world’s best players through the 80’s and 90’s. In these two decades, Italian clubs were extremely successful, and the best players in the world played there, such as Maradona, Platini, Ruud Gullit, Zidane, Ronaldo and Matthaus. Since 1980, The European Player of the Year Award has been won by 16 players who were playing in Italy. In contrast, only 6 winners have come from Spanish clubs, and even less – just 2, from English clubs. However, the good news for Italy stops there: the Italian legend Arrigo Sacchi stated recently that Italian football has declined significantly in the last few years, and has lost ground to the Spanish and English leagues. Success in the last decade has indeed been minimal for Italian clubs, and many purists believe that the league is not exciting.
Soccer scoreboards Spanish football – The national team is the Mecca of world football at the moment. The club teams are doing well too, particularly Barcelona. Many people rate the current Barcelona team as the best they have seen in their lifetime. In terms of attacking flair and creativity they truly are one of the best teams ever. The Spanish league has been on the rise in recent years: it has lots of strength in depth and an enormous amount of incredibly technically adept players play in it.
Soccer scoreboards English football – The success of English clubs in recent times is clearly due to the finances at their disposal. The richest clubs in the world are largely from England, with the exception of a small number of Spanish and Italian clubs, such as the Milans, Barcelona and real Madrid. Many English clubs have been bought by wealthy foreign investors, such as Chelsea, and most recently, Manchester city. In recent years, the English teams have been dominating in Europe. Last season not so much, but before that they had a representative in the final for four seasons in a row, including one all English final. Two seasons in a row, three teams from England reached the semi-finals.
The Champions league and European cup has been won in equal measures by the three countries. Each country has lifted the trophy 11 times. Italy, however, has had more finalists: 16 to Spain’s 9 and England’s 5. This however does not take into account the fact that English clubs were banned from Europe during the late 80’s, as a result of the Heysel stadium incident.
In summary, the English game is physical and fast, but the game in Italy and Spain is technically more accomplished. Tactics and formations are more important than in England. Perhaps this is why the Italian and Spanish national teams have had success in recent years, whilst England has continued to under perform. Generally, the Italian club game has declined somewhat, the English game will try to hold its position at the top this season in terms of trophies, but many consider that the ever improving Spanish league is the one to watch at the moment, and is the best league in Europe.
