With the season coming to an end, the best players in the world are lined up to shine in the world’s biggest club competition, the Champions league, and in their respective national leagues. In this article, I have reviewed some of the top players whom we expect to light up the soccer scoreboards across Europe in the next few weeks.
Samir Nasri
Apart from the fact that Nasri has been hit by injuries this year, he has performed like never before for Arsenal. He is a key player for the club and has 14 goals to his name. According to Zidane, Nasri is the bright future of French football, and this season he is showing us why Zidane said that. But can he reach the amazing heights of the great Zidane? Arsenal NEED to win the Premiership this season, and for that they need Nasri on top form!
Robin Van Persie
Every Arsenal fan expects to see their star in full form when he comes out to play in the qualifying rounds. Van Persie is has been playing exceptionally well and has been lighting up the soccer scoreboards, but he has also has had injury problems. It is difficult not to compare him to the Dutch and Arsenal favorite of the last decade – Dennis Bergkamp. Like Nasri and Zidane though, we are waiting for Persie to up his game a little more before true comparisons can be made.
Wayne Rooney
The heart of Manchester United, Rooney is expected to perform in every game he plays. He is a star player who has suffered this season from huge expectations brought about by his form of previous years. Now that he is earning BIG money, fans want more of what he gave before, and he just hasn’t delivered that. Now is the time for him to shine again.
Christiano Ronaldo
Ronaldo nowadays is somewhat overrated. He does not deserve the hype that has been created around him, but there us still no doubt that he is a great player. In the 2010-2011 season he scored 37 goals for Real Madrid, which shows that he has the talent to turn the game around in his favor, but his real flaw is his inconsistency. He has been known to flop in important matches. The pressure on him to perform in the latter stages of the Champions League must be massive.
Xavi Hernandez
The captain of Barcelona is having another amazing season. Xavi, alongside Messi and Iniesta has improved a lot in the last 2 years. He finished 2010 with a 94% passing accuracy, which shows how good a passer he really is. When he is not on fire, though, Barlecona have lacked the edge that has brought them to where they are today, and in the last 2 months of this season, everybody will be looking at him to lead Barcelona to another set of trophies.
