Luis Aragonés, the national team coach of the Spanish team, made a remark about Fernando, saying that he never scores two goals in the same way, which underlined Torres’s versatility as a player. Nevertheless, in November 2006 Fernando was dropped from the Spanish team for a friendly match with Romania, because in 8 matches he only scored 2 goals due to a drop in form.
