Nothing has gone wrong for Barcelona this season. So far they have got everything right – from the number of victories to the amazing performances to the success of the newly signed players. The soccer scoreboards showed that David Villa signed with Barcelona in May 2010 for a fee of €40 million. The team was further strengthened by signing probably the best striker in the world, and this is on top of the fact that it already has players on its books such as Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Xavi etc! Barcelona had the most successful season ever in 2008-2009. It was in fact the most successful in any club’s history and nobody could have at that time said that the same team could possibly perform better than they did in the 2008-2009 season. This season, however is just as special.
Barcelona is without doubt (to Madrid’s disgust!) the number one team in La Liga. Barcelona has been brilliant this season and each and every player of the team has continued to develop their game. The team work and awareness of each other game and positioning has been one of the main reasons for their outstanding performances this season. Each player understands what the other if thinking and is able to anticipate his team mates next move. Lionel Messi is the best player in the world today and he has proved it time and again with the team. He is unmatchable and not since Maradonna have we seen such incredible levels of skill. The goalkeeper of Barcelona, Victor Valdes was just an ordinary keeper a few years aho, but now he is considered one of the best goalies in Europe. His shot stopping is superb.
Barcelona’s defense has been really good this season too. One of the men behind the defensive excellence is Sergio Busquets. He has replaced Yaya Toure this season. Many analysts fail to recognize Busquests as a great defensive midfielder just because he is not as powerful as Toure. The good thing about Busquets is that he is more disciplined than Toure. Other players who have emerged as important players for the team include Pedro.
Barcelona’s performance in the El Classico is a great example of the kind of team they have become. They truly are the face of the new world champions. The team includes a lot of Spanish players, and no less than 5 players who were voted onto the UEFA team of the year in January 2011. Huge credit for the high level performance of the team goes to the coach Pep Guardiola. He is the man behind the team’s success. He has transformed the team into an underperforming superpower, to the best team of the generation.
Barcelona have never looked so sharp. If you haven’t watched them play yet, then beware – all other teams after will look slow, plodding and unskilled in comparison. With the current mix of players and the and manager that they have, Barcelona fans have a lot to look forward in the next few seasons!
