Arsenal’s Lucky Charm - Cesc Fabregas

In a feature, I have looked at Cesc Fabrega’s huge influence on Arsenal. The team is starving for trophies, but with this man at the helm the time is surely coming when the fans will have to suffer no more!

Arsenal is an English club nicknamed as The Gunners. It has a team with a great history, that is dearly loved and supported by its fans. Arsenal does not have scores of expensive stars such as Chelsea or Manchester City, but it has had some of the most admired players in the world on its books over the years, such as Ian Wright, Thierry Henry and Patrick Vierira.

Let’s talk about today’s Arsenal. Today Arsenal is led by Cesc Fabregas, a Spanish player. Fabregas started off his career with Barcelona as a trainee and was signed by Arsenal in 2003. He played his debut match for Arsenal and still plays for the same club as a midfielder. After his impressive performance in the under-17 FIFA World Championship, he was called up to the main squad, and he became Arsenal’s youngest first team player. He started off very well and scored some good goals in his early games. In addition he demonstrated to the fans what he is now best know for – his fantastic touch and inch perfect passing skills.

Cesc Fabregas is known as the lucky charm for Arsenal. When Fabregas scores, Arsenal almost always win. (Arsenal has 81% chance of winning when Fabregas scores!) There is no doubt that Fabregas is not only an amazing scorer but also a great all round midfield player, which is one reason why the soccer scoreboards showed that he was named as the captain of the team in the 2008-2009 season. Fabregas is the soul of the team. Whenever he is sidelined due to an injury, the team doesn’t perform up to the mark. There is a direct colleration between Fabregas playing, and Arsenal performing.

He holds the records for the most appearances, youngest goal scorer i.e. he was the first player for Arsenal to score at the age of 16, youngest goal scorer in the league – when he scored in the Premier League in 2004 against Blackburn Rovers at the age of 17, the youngest goal scorer in Europe – when he scored in the 2004 UEFA Champions League against Rosenborg at the age of 17. He is also the first Arsenal player to win a World Cup winner’s medal – when his Spanish team won the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The only reason he is not an automatic starter for Spain is because the first choice midfielders, Xavi and Iniesta, happen to be the best two midfielders in the world.

Fabregas has proved himself time and again to Arsenal fans with his unique style of play. With his long term contract signed and sealed, keeping him at Arsenal for the forseeable future, we hope to see him playing for them for many years to come, and bringing them some long awaited trophies!
