Scoreboards for sporting events have gone through some very dramatic improvements in recent years in both their ability to display useful information to the fans and their ease of use for schools. Even though there is a wide universe of scoreboard types, all of them share some common improvements that were made possible through newer technology. Some of these innovations, like large LED screens help the fans follow the action more closely and draw them deeper into the game with instant replays and player interviews. Other improvements to the scoreboards make them less expensive to operate for the school and more reliable as well. Both of these are great reasons for a school to upgrade their current scoreboard for one of these new and improved scoring solutions.
The most basic of scoreboard types is the old style scoreboard. This type of display tends to be very basic and simply updates the players on aspects of the game like score, inning, possession and time left in the game or match. Many fans prefer this version of scoreboard as it allows them to focus on the game and is easy to read and see quickly how their team is doing. Of all the various scoreboard types, this is the simplest and less expensive to design and install for a school, and does a great job of updating the fans.
The next most popular of the scoreboard types available builds on the basics of the old style display. It is still limited to LED displays, but in addition to just presenting the digital score, time and other information it may include some text as well to list player names and details like fouls. This is still a fairly basic design, but gives the fans more information than a simple scoring solution. This type of unit may also include some sponsor panels and may even have a ticker style display for advertising and announcements. The majority of scoreboards installed today fall into this style of design and these can still be customized quite extensively for a particular schools needs.
The final one of the scoreboard types being produced today is a full interactive display. This type of unit includes all of the elements present in the other two scoreboard types, but also includes large LED video panels in its design. This could be a single large panel incorporated into the scoreboard, or several panels that are smaller and can display different content during a game. These LED panels allow the scoreboard to become more than a simple way to update the fans on the games progress. These multimedia scoreboards can display live action video and allow a school to show instant replays, player interviews, on the field action as well as interactive advertising and promotions. This type of scoreboard can keep the fans engaged in the game like never before and will also help them enjoy their teams more through these video presentations. Many schools will also use these larger displays for special events like concerts to display a live feed of the performance. This truly allows every fan to have the best seat in the house.
