Jerry Jones was featured on a sports program recently on the basis of his impact on sporting venues and largely his role in making giant LED message boards and super scoreboards a necessity in new arenas. With his $1.4 billion investment in Cowboy Stadium and the tremendous press he’s received for it, and a lot of it on the giant scoreboards hanging in the center of the field, it is tough to argue against his effect on the industry and the ideas he’s placed out into the mainstream. LED display signs have been popping up more frequently in recent years and with the ease that a programmable led sign can be operated, even those who aren’t computer savvy have had success in using the tools.
LED message boards do a lot of things that normal signs cannot, and newer technology signs do an even better job than previous generations at grabbing attention and providing sheer volume in detail and advertising. Scrolling messages on simple a LED display sign was the way of many street facing signs and window signs. Businesses used these window signs for a variety of things other than simple window advertising as well, from front desk advertising to an array of simple LED message boards for the stock exchange. Larger signs, like the newsticker in New York City, are just blown up versions of the simple sign, doing nothing more than changing a series of flashing lights on a scrolling background of black, unlit bulbs.
When sports decided to pick up on the technology breakthroughs, the standard at the time would simply not do. As always, and in everything athletic, the bigger, faster, stronger (or in this case, flashier), the product is, the more attention it will receive and in the end, turn over into more dollars in pocket for both the franchise as well as all sponsoring parties. So with that came the new generation of programmable LED sign technology, bringing super massive LED display signs that eclipsed the old generation of LED message boards. These new LED screens can be seen in a variety of baseball stadiums, basketball arenas and football stadiums. They display full color, some even in high definition, and do more than simply flash words or picture of advertising. These bad boys of sign can display full motion video in great quality and do everything from instant replay of the last play, to highlights of the season or for a specific player, live camera feeds from within the stadium as well as a variety of advertisement from various companies.
With the ‘norm’ in athletic facilties now being to have a sophisticated screen such as these, it is almost a terrible oversight to not include one. These are not only an investment in successful marketing, but advertisers have come to expect these things in sporting venues. Without them, not all the opportunities that would be possible for advertising revenue may not be attracted to place an ad in the venue.
LED message boards have become an investment in success, and even gives an aire of credibility when trying to attract advertisers to pitch in and help your team.
