Every year, technology for sports scoreboards improves, and with each new stadium design, LED scoreboards are becoming more common and more advanced. Professional, college and now high schools are all starting to employ the use of LED scoreboards with an electronic LED display. Aside from its game statistics display and the advertising space, there is a wow factor with LED displays that cannot be denied. Stadiums and arena’s will often times be judged by their appearance. A fantastic concrete stadium that holds 10,000 people for a high school game, or 100,000 for a professional game, would be diminished by the quality of a sports scoreboard that fits in like a pimple between the eyes. It is important to know where the technology is heading, and as the technology becomes more advanced and the price drops, you may see this technology work its way into the high school and college levels.
The biggest news in 2008 came from the announcement of the Dallas Cowboys new stadium that sits at a whopping $1.4 billion (and climbing). Dallas spared no expense at the creation of what is to be the most advanced and eye popping display of human engineering in the modern age. Its a spectacle of moving metal as the metal roof fully retracts and sits a small city within its walls, while hoisting the pinnacle of electronic LED display technology, putting LED scoreboards around the world to shame (until the Yankee’s buy one).
The technology came from Mitsubishi’s team and is called Diamond Vision. It makes up their 4 sided HD sports scoreboards, all of them LED scoreboards to a 1080p resolution. They broadcast video, advertisements and statistic in high definition video; eye candy for any fan sitting within the bounds of this sport giant. Similar screens have been built in the past, and as technology has proven over the last decade, the price falls rather fast after the first few are made and time takes its toll and people search for the next best thing. Right now however, it seems rather difficult to imagine anything capable of being better and more physically imposing as this grandest of LED scoreboards is.
The Diamondbacks have installed another diamond display at Chase Stadium, which is the best comparison to what Dallas has to offer with its set up. The Diamonback display plays full video, stastitcs, and replays in full view to virtually everyone within the stadium. The sheer wow factor and clarity of these diamond displays has drawn a lot of attention from possible advertisers, and the franchise looks out profit even after spending $14 million on what is essentially two large televisions.
With the Diamond Vision technology becoming the standard for excellence in professional sports, some colleges and prominent high school programs have also utilized similar technologies, showing the potentially marketting power the simple screens have by so effectively drawing attention. LED Scoreboards are always evolving and each scoreboard is built around the needs of an organization. More and more organizations seem to be wanting the premium quality product when seeking a new scoreboard to compliment their arenas and stadiums.
