The UEFA Champions League Review: 2nd leg, Quarterfinals

The Uefa Champions League: 2nd Leg The 2nd leg of the champions’ league quarterfinals is over. The soccer scoreboards show that Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Schalke are in the final four. None of the matches were close. Barcelona defeated Shakhtar with an aggregate score of 6-1, Real Madrid defeated Tottenham with an aggregate score of 5-0, Manchester United defeated Chelsea with an aggregate score of 3-1 and Schalke lit up the soccer scoreboards, defeating Inter Milan by an aggregate score of 7-3.

The Best Player Ever At Each Position in the NBA

5 guys, one aim – stardom. And these guys are some of the biggest stars the sporting world has ever produced. This basketball scoreboards article looks at all the 5 positions and lists the greatest NBA player to have graced the courts at each one of them.

1. The Point Guard, Earvin “Magic” Johnson – he is one of the (or just the?!) greatest basketball players in the history of NBA. Besides having great all-round skills, he was a great team player as well. As the point guard for the Lakers, he took them to 9 appearances in the Finals and the Lakers ended up winning 5 of those. At the end of his career, his averages looked like this: 2 steals, 7.2 rebounds, 11.2 assists and 19.5 points per game. The NFL Combine Position Drills: Defensive Lineman

In a football scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at the defensive lineman position in the NFL combine. If you are a defensive lineman, it is all about getting to the quarterback. There is one drill at the NFL combine that all coaches prefer to all the others for a defensive lineman. In this drill there are, essentially, two moves which every defensive linebacker and lineman rushing the quarterback have to demonstrate: the Rip and the Swim. These are 2 very different techniques but actually they are quite basic and simple. If you can show that you can do this drill to a very high level, you are on your way to getting into the NFL.

Trade Rumors for the 2011 MLB Season

With the 2011 season right around the corner, there have been several trade rumors circling around. Some of the players are being rumored as up for trading because their teams see them more as a liability than an asset. Some players’ contracts are nearing their end, and they may graduate to free agency. While others still might just be retiring (Bengie Molina). This is not the first time that Cole has got himself into serious trouble. MLB: The 5 Worst Players of the 2010 Season

Even though the 2010 season is long over, the fans’ memories are sharp, and the performances of the players in 2010 have not been forgotten. In particular, its the players who flopped that are stay on the fans’ minds, and the coaches too! The Most Uneven Trades in NBA History

Trades can be a risky affair. Sometimes they turn out to be very beneficial for one team, but send the other towards a cellar. The number of trades that have proven to be successful for both the teams are without doubt in the minority. In a basketball scoreboards feature, I have reviewed some of the most lopsided trades that took place in the history of NBA.

Charles Barkley

Barkley was traded to the Phoenix Suns by the Philadelphia 76ers in 1992. Barkley had established himself as a great player with a great personality. The 76ers traded him for Tim Perry, Jeff Hornacek and Andrew Lang. Barkley fast became the key player for the Suns, and the basketball scoreboards showed that he led them to the finals of the 1993 NBA championship. On the other hand, the 76ers lost out big time from this trade, as Hornacek moved onto Utah Jazz and became a very important player for the them, whilst Perry and Lang failed to shine.

The Top 5 Midfielders Left in the UEFA Champions League

We are now in the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League, where each tie consists of two legs with one home game for each team. As we are in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. In a soccer scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at the best midfielders left in the league:

5. Theo Walcott and Andrei Arshavin

There are players who are not that great midfielders on their own, but when they pair up with another midfielder they make a deadly combination. This is the case for Arsenal’s Walcott and Arshavin. Walcott started off the season incredibly well and is arguably having his best season ever with 7 goals already to his name in the league. The soccer scoreboards show that Arshavin joined the gunners in January 2009 and since then has been one of the key players for the team. His impact is evident from the fact that the gunners have not lost a single match out of the 13 matches Arshavin has played in (as of February).

7. Philadelphia Phillies(ED), Steve Carlton, 1972-1986: one of the best left handed pitchers of all time; he easily beat Mike Schmidt and Grover C. Alexander for the Phillies “Best” spot. The baseball scoreboards showed that Carlton had a record of a 3.09 ERA and 241-161 with the Phillies. He managed to shut out his rivals on 39 occasions, a pitch of 185 CG, 1.211 WHIP, 4 Cy Young Awards and 7 All-Star appearances.

The Top 5 NBA rookies of 2010/2011

There has been some amazing addition to the NBA talent this season. As the season is drawing to an end lets take a Basketball scoreboards look at the top 5 rookies who were drafted last year.

5. Wesley Johnson
Wesley Johnson is the right man in the wrong team. He is a superb find but unfortunately plays for a team where his hard work has not paid off. He is trying to turn around the fate of his team, The Minnesota Timberwolves, but he does not have the players around him. He played incredibly well against the Los Angeles Lakers two weeks ago, with the basketball scoreboards showing that he scored a career high 29 points. He has emerged as a solid shooting guard in the NBA and with this kind of performance he will surely go a long way in the league in the years to come.

The 4 Best Power Forwards in the NBA

This season has seem some established players reach the peak of their careers, and some newbies come in and take the league by storm. In a basketball scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at the 4 most amazing power forwards in the NBA today.

4 – Blake Griffin
Although only in his rookie season, this young boy has amazed everyone with his natural skills and abilities. The basketball scoreboards showed that he was drafted in 2009 by the Los Angeles Clippers, but just a day before the 2009-2010 season started, it was confirmed that Griffin had suffered a stress fracture in his left knee and would miss seven weeks of play. After this lay-off, the test results showed that he was not recovering properly, and he ended up missing the entire season. Things have taken a big turn for him this season though, and he has surely established his future with the LA Clippers. He is having the best rookie season ever and is scoring an average of 22.5 and rebounding with an average of 12.4. This puts him in third place among the power forwards. Such stats have never been achieved by a rookie!

7. Cleveland Indians(CD), Bob Feller, 1936-1956: from ’41-’44, “Rapid Robert” left the Indians to devote 3 years of his career to the US Navy. When he left, he was at the zenith of his career and when he came back it was as if he never left. Every team has a player that cannot be replaced. If the player is injured or cannot play due to some reason, it it next to impossible to find an adequate replacement for him in the team. Here is a basketball scoreboards list some of the most indispensable players in the NBA.

Derrick Rose
The name says it all! There is no substitute for this guy. He is the backbone of the Chicago Bulls and it is very difficult to imagine where the team would be without him. He is unarguably the best point guard in NBA and it is only due to him that his team is the third in the Eastern Conference. His stats this year show what a great and consistent player he has been. The basketball scoreboards show that he is averaging 24.9 points, 8.2 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game as well as an impressive player efficiency rating of 23.3.

Barcelona maul Arsenal in the 2nd leg of the Champions League.

The much awaited match was played on 8th March 2011 at the Camp Nou. With the soccer scoreboards showing 2-1 to Arsenal after the first leg, it was anybody’s game!

Both the teams, Arsenal and Barcelona, played a fantastic match but in the end it was Barcelona who emerged victorious and advanced to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League. It is the fourth consecutive year that Barcelona has succeeded in reaching the last 8 in the Champions League, but for Arsenal it is another season of dashed hopes as the soccer scoreboards show that they are now out of the Champion’s league.

The NFL Labor Dispute – What is Going On?

In a football scoreboards feature, I have reviewed the latest goings on in the NFL labor dispute.

The dispute (fight, battle, war…everything fits!) is over the contract/agreement between the NFL franchise owners and the NFL Players Association. To say that the owners and the NFLPA don’t like each other would be like saying that the Cowboys and Redskins are friendly! Everyone, who pays even the slightest of attention to football, probably knows that a big battle has been going on behind the scenes (or should I say “behind the lines of the football field”!) for the better part of last year and this. The Great Gary Neville – A Glimpse at His Hugley Successful Career

Soccer scoreboards can reveal that Gary Neville revealed that he is retiring on 2nd February 2011. He was the captain of Manchester United for five years, and was dearly loved by the Man U fans throughout his extensive career with the team. He made his debut for the club in 1992 in the European cup against Tarpedo Moscow in Russia. The Top 3 Most Weird Injuries in MLB

In the latest baseball scoreboards article, I have looked at some of the more ridiculous injuries that MLB players have sustained.

Injuries are a part of every sport, no matter what the degree of physical exertion required. However, it seems that for a player to get injured, they do not necessarily need to be playing a particularly physical game, or in some cases they do not need to be playing at all to get injured. The Best foreign born NBA players

The NBA has been greatly influenced by foreign players, particularly in the last decade. In a basketball scoreboards feature, I have listed the players who have made the greatest impact on the game past and present.

Yao Ming – China
Yao Ming was first drafted by the Houston Rockets in 2002. He was the rookie of the year in 2003. In the first three years of his career this iconic giant lived up to the expectations and hype that his presence in the league created. He also increased interest in the league in Asia massively. However, currently he is stuck in the realm of injuries and he might even have to retire. He has missed large parts of the last few seasons and has played only five matches so far this season. He remains very popular among NBA fans all over the world, and we all hope that he can still recover from his endless injuries and put in a good run of games.

The Top 2 Free Agents in the NBA up for Grabs in 2011

In a baskeball scoreboards feature, I have taken a look at Carmelo Anthony and Yao Ming, 2 free agents that are of interest in 2011.

In 2010, we saw several key players being freed into the wild again i.e. the caps on their contracts ran out and they were free to either keep playing for their current team or find new ones with better contracts. However, the top tier players i.e. LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade showed that it is not always about the money. These players left money on the table only to be able to play on the same team: Miami Heat (OK, I’m joking about LeBron!). Barcelona and the Players that are Bringing it Glory

Nothing has gone wrong for Barcelona this season. So far they have got everything right – from the number of victories to the amazing performances to the success of the newly signed players. The soccer scoreboards showed that David Villa signed with Barcelona in May 2010 for a fee of €40 million. The team was further strengthened by signing probably the best striker in the world, and this is on top of the fact that it already has players on its books such as Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Xavi etc! Barcelona had the most successful season ever in 2008-2009. It was in fact the most successful in any club’s history and nobody could have at that time said that the same team could possibly perform better than they did in the 2008-2009 season. The Best 3 Point Shooters Ever in the NBA

In a basketball scoreboards feature, I have listed what I consider to be the biggest 3 point shooters ever to have graced the NBA with their pin-point skills.

A three-point shot is when a player scores from behind the three point line. If successful, the shot earns him and his team three points rather than the usual two points. The player is allowed to jump from outside the line and land inside the line but, only if the ball is released in mid air. If he fails to shoot in mid air, i.e. he shoots from inside the three point line, he only earns the regular two points. Aside from the 3 points the player gets if he makes the shot, he gets another advantage: if he misses the shot and is fouled he will be awarded free throw attempts which he can use to earn 4 points. In the last ten years there has been an explosion in the number of black players playing in the top European leagues, particularly in the French and English leagues. The reasons for this are complex, but they are largely social-cultural. To start with, increased opportunities due to anti-racism programs and the globalizing of the game (ten years ago, the majority of players in the English league, for instance, were British, but now the majority of them are foreign born). Secondly, sport is a huge part of black culture, and an avenue in which many young black kids go down. This is quite different in the Asian world, for instance, where playing sports to reach a professional level is much less important and not so encouraged.

Which Team Will Cliff Lee Choose – the Yankees or the Rangers?

The greatest trade currently in MLB is still undecided. Almost every team wants him, but the two most probable teams to whom Cliff Lee will move to is the New York Yankees and Texas Rangers. Cliff Lee, who is 31, is looking for a seven year contract. He is a free agent and has played for the Texas Rangers in 2010. Cliff Lee is all over the news channels these days, and for good reason: the baseball scoreboards showed that he finished the 2008 season with 2.54 ERS and a CY award. Who will win this year’s FIFA Ballon D’or?

The FIFA Ballon D’or is a European award and was previously given to European footballers only, however, in 1995 the rules changed and non-European players were also declared eligible for this award. In 2007, the soccer scoreboards showed that the rules changed again and now any player of any nationality and playing for any club is eligible for this award. This has also led to an increase in the number of journalists who vote and choose their top five players. This award is given to the player who was the best in the previous calendar year and who has delivered consistently outstanding performances.

The Players Have Spoken: The Top 3 Most Overrated Players In MLB

In a baseball scoreboards feature, we look at what the MLB players think of their peers, and who they rate as the most overrated!

Sports Illustrated conducted a survey of one hundred and eighty seven (187) major league players to find the answer to the question that every MLB fan had been pondering over: which player is the most overrated? The answers each player gave were analyzed, and after much deliberation the top 5 were announced. However, once you see the list you will see how the players were not necessarily assessing the candidates according to their level of skill. Instead it seemed they were (being girls!) assessing them on the principle of: from a scale of 1 – 10 how much do I loath this player? Every fan of the game has heard it so many times that it probably just ticks them off: the best defense wins the game. This principle is true for every sport, but even more so when it comes to American football. The offence is, no doubt, important too, but it has been observed that more often than not it is the team’s defense that is the number factor in bringing it postseason glory.
