Messi was on the soccer scoreboards in Barcelona last season no less than 43 times, as the Argentinean genius spent the season scoring goals for fun. In one three game stretch, he scored 10 goals, and it was not only the quantity of goals he scored, but the quality of goals too that amazed. On top of that, the number of assists from him last season was incredible. Undoubtedly, he is helped by the fantastic players around him, such as Iniesta and Xavi, who read his game perfectly and are able to play his little one-twos to devastating effect. This, however, should not take away from the individual achievements of this prodigious talent.

Larry Joe Bird was born on December 7th, 1956. As a young child he showed signs of greatness and by the time he was in high school he was breaking all kinds of records. His performances at Spring V. High School got him a scholarship at the University of Indiana. In his senior year, Bird inspired as he led his team to an NCAA Championship, with the basketball scoreboards showing 89-77 in the final against the Michigan State Spartans.

Beach volleyball – a glamorous sport whose popularity is exploding

Whilst a New Yorker called William G. Morgan invented the indoor game in 1895, beach volleyball was first played in California, its ‘spiritual home’ in the 1920’s. In 1920, new areas were built on the beach in Santa Marta, California, specifically for public enjoyment. It was here that the seeds for beach volleyball were planted. The game quickly took off, and 11 beach volleyball clubs opened up in the area in 1922. Club competitions were held in 1924, and these were the first beach volleyball tournaments to take place anywhere in the world.

Jeremy Lin has become the newest Golden State Warrior, and in doing so has fulfilled his life-long dream.

On Wednesday afternoon, Jeremy completed the signing of a two-year contract with the Warriors. According to a variety of sources, he also received offers from the Lakers and from Dallas. Apparently, he even received a counter offer that was even greater than his Warrior’s deal. However, nothing could lure him away from a contract with the team he spent his childhood watching, which will also give him the opportunity to play in the town where his family live.

Thierry Henry started his career in France with Monaco, then moved to the Italian Juventus, English Arsenal, Spanish Barcelona, and now he is playing for the New York Red Bulls.
