The big two in the soccer world are generally considered as being Pelé and Diego Maradona. This is not to take away from the achievements of George Best, Yohan Cruff, and other soccer stars through the ages, but for one reason or another it is Pele and Maradona who always lit up the soccer scoreboards, and who have been placed on the podium as the best of the best.

Will Shaq be back next season?
A regular on the basketball scoreboards for nearly two decades, Shaquille O’Neal has won the NBA champion no less than four times. He recently said that he will be playing next season, and would prefer to hang up his boots for good than play internationally. When the time comes for the great Shaq to retire, he said that he will do so in style, and have a huge party to celebrate.

The AVP volleyball scoreboards have seen many great players such as Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser. The tour travels across the US and showcases these great players at prominent beach locations, chosen for their active volleyball community.

Messi – the best player in the world?
Messi was on the soccer scoreboards in Barcelona last season no less than 43 times, as the Argentinean genius spent the season scoring goals for fun. In one three game stretch, he scored 10 goals, and it was not only the quantity of goals he scored, but the quality of goals too that amazed. On top of that, the number of assists from him last season was incredible. Undoubtedly, he is helped by the fantastic players around him, such as Iniesta and Xavi, who read his game perfectly and are able to play his little one-twos to devastating effect. This, however, should not take away from the individual achievements of this prodigious talent.

Larry Bird – The Boston Celtic`s greatest ever player.
Larry Joe Bird was born on December 7th, 1956. As a young child he showed signs of greatness and by the time he was in high school he was breaking all kinds of records. His performances at Spring V. High School got him a scholarship at the University of Indiana. In his senior year, Bird inspired as he led his team to an NCAA Championship, with the basketball scoreboards showing 89-77 in the final against the Michigan State Spartans.

Gabriel Sanchez – Major League Baseball’s big secret!
Gabriel Sanchez, of Cuban descent, was born in Florida on September 2nd 1983. He is currently the first baseman for the Martins. In spring, Marlins fans were debating whether Gaby Sanchez or Logan Morrison should get the job as first baseman, and many fans were surprised when the coach trusted him with this all important position. However, Sanchez has been a phenomenal success this season so far.

Beach volleyball – a glamorous sport whose popularity is exploding
Whilst a New Yorker called William G. Morgan invented the indoor game in 1895, beach volleyball was first played in California, its ‘spiritual home’ in the 1920’s. In 1920, new areas were built on the beach in Santa Marta, California, specifically for public enjoyment. It was here that the seeds for beach volleyball were planted. The game quickly took off, and 11 beach volleyball clubs opened up in the area in 1922. Club competitions were held in 1924, and these were the first beach volleyball tournaments to take place anywhere in the world.

Jeremy Lin – The first American Asian to play in the NBA is signed by the Warriors.
Jeremy Lin has become the newest Golden State Warrior, and in doing so has fulfilled his life-long dream.
On Wednesday afternoon, Jeremy completed the signing of a two-year contract with the Warriors. According to a variety of sources, he also received offers from the Lakers and from Dallas. Apparently, he even received a counter offer that was even greater than his Warrior’s deal. However, nothing could lure him away from a contract with the team he spent his childhood watching, which will also give him the opportunity to play in the town where his family live.

The MLS goes from strength to strength – its latest star is Thierry Henry, France’s top goal-scorer of all time.
Thierry Henry started his career in France with Monaco, then moved to the Italian Juventus, English Arsenal, Spanish Barcelona, and now he is playing for the New York Red Bulls. It was at the English premier league club Arsenal that he really made his name, lighting up the soccer scoreboards with a record breaking 226 goals in 8 seasons for the club.
