- The number of college summer basketball camps is on the rise due to their top notch facilities combined with the convenience of their dormitories.
One of the best things for young player’s development is to attend a youth summer basketball camp. These camps offer great instruction on both the individual levels and team levels. There are hundreds of summer camps offered across the nation so no matter where you’re located you’ll have a wealth of options to choose from.
There are many different types of camps offered today but two distinctive differences are sleep away camps and day camps. As one could deduce from the name, sleep away camps offer boarding for their participants and are often held at colleges due to the use of the dormitories. Nike runs one of the most popular camps held at different colleges throughout the nation. This camp attracts plenty of top college coaches and players to act as instructors for the campers. The camp attracts players of all ages, genders and skill levels and divides them up accordingly. It gives player the opportunity to play against better competition and improve their game. The one drawback of many sleep away camps is the cost per camper for their parents, especially if they have to send more than one child to the camp.
As an alternative there are several day camps available in your area no matter where you live in the country. These youth summer basketball camps are getting more and more popular every day as the sport of basketball gains popularity. When it comes to comparing the quality of instructors with those at the sleep away camps the quality is often times the same. They often attract coaches from the local high schools and colleges in the area as well as former players. The cost of these camps is far less than sleep away camps since they don’t have to worry about boarding expenses.
Both summer camps often provide the same instruction and use the same type of drills to improve the player’s ability. They often divide the campers into teams and conduct mock practices throughout the morning and then scrimmage against other teams in the afternoon. One of the great things about both camps is that they bring a league-like atmosphere to the instruction. This helps keep the campers focused while the scrimmages help them apply what they learned in the practice to game time situations.
As parents of young basketball players the youth summer basketball camp is the ideal way to improve a player’s ability while also giving them the opportunity to make new friends. And of course there is always the added bonus of having your youngsters out of the house for a few weeks. You can rest easy knowing that there is a quality camp located within a reasonable distance from your home. With youth summer basketball camps, both the parents and the young ball players win.
As an electronic scoreboards continue to light up.
I went to one of these camps when I was kid. I didn’t know a whole lot about basketball when I went, I just liked to play. When I was done there I actually understood the rules and could play a whole lot better. Plus they were really fun, you didn’t even know that you were learning most of the time.
We sent out son to one of these camps this past summer. We really wanted him to find something that he enjoyed, and while we couldn’t afford the over-night camps the day camps were amazing. He loved going and never enjoys anything!
I’ve been looking for an over-night camp in our area for our son this summer. He hasn’t really played on any teams and he is going into sixth grade and wants to try and make it school’s team. I think he’s pretty good, but I’m a little biased. We want the over-night one because he normally goes to a different camp and we were going to try and “exchange” camps. Hopefully this article is right about how much they can learn and how many locations there are.
