5 guys, one aim – stardom. And these guys are some of the biggest stars the sporting world has ever produced. This basketball scoreboards article looks at all the 5 positions and lists the greatest NBA player to have graced the courts at each one of them.
1. The Point Guard, Earvin “Magic” Johnson – he is one of the (or just the?!) greatest basketball players in the history of NBA. Besides having great all-round skills, he was a great team player as well. As the point guard for the Lakers, he took them to 9 appearances in the Finals and the Lakers ended up winning 5 of those. At the end of his career, his averages looked like this: 2 steals, 7.2 rebounds, 11.2 assists and 19.5 points per game. His field shots stood at 52 percents, while his percentile from the free throw point stood at 85. The basketball scoreboards show that he has 12 All Star appearances under his belt along with 3 MVP, 3 Final MVPs and 2 MVPs for the All Star game.
2. The Shooting Guard, Michael Jordan – in terms of being the best NBA player of all time, he is (quite possibly!) 3rd right behind Magic and Kareem. At the end of his 15 year career, his averages looked like this: .8 Blocks, 2.3 Steals, 5.3 Assists, 6.2 Rebounds and 30.1 points per game. He has 13 All Star selections to his name with 3 All Star MVPs. He is the 2nd NBA player with the most MVP awards, right behind Kareem.
3. The Small Forward, Larry Bird – Bird was a player in the league of Magic and Kareem, which is why he is rubbing elbows with them as one of the 5 best NBA players to have ever played the game. At the end of his career, his figures looked like this: .8 blocks, 1.7 steals, 6.3 assists, 10 rebounds and 24.3 points per game. He was better than Michael Jordan in almost every way except for the points per game. His shooting accuracy percentile stood at: 88.6% free throw, 37.6% three point and 49.6% field shots. He took the Celtics to 3 championships. He won 2 Finals MVPs, 1 All Star MVP and 3 MVPs.
4. The Power Forwards, Tim Duncan – regarded as one of the best player in NBA, and is now firmly established in the league of the greatest to have ever played. He’s the only player in NBA to have won 8 consecutive All NBA First Defensive Team selections. Thus far in his career, his averages look like this: 20.6 points, 11.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists, .7 steals and 2.3 blocks per game.
5. The Centers, Kareem Abdul Jabbar – when it comes to accomplishments, he is the greatest player there ever was. He leads in all time total points, 3rd in total rebounds and 3rd in total blocks. In his hefty 20 year career he managed averages that looked like: 2.6 blocks, .9 steals, 3.6 assists, 11.2 rebounds and 24.6 points per game. He took his teams to 6 championships.
