Lebron James, Dwight Howard, Duane Wade, and Kobe Bryant were all responsible for some exhilarating slams of the past year.

One of the best slam dunks of the past year belongs to none other than Kobe Bryant against the Phoneix Suns. Luke Walton had the ball at the foul line extended when Kobe cut around him and headed toward the basket along the baseline. Walton passed the ball through his defenders legs where Bryant caught it along the baseline. He then proceeded to go up for a thunderous reverse jam that brought the crowd to its feet. The entire play, from the pass to the dunk, remains one of the greatest slam dunks of 2008.

Lebron James has earned a reputation as one of the league’s best when it comes to throwing down slam dunks over opponents. The 2008 season was no different as James continued to dominate his opponents. One of his best of 2008 was against the Indiana Pacers during the 2008 playoffs. Lebron drove down the lane and threw down a reverse dunk with two players converging on him. It was truly a remarkable play by one of the NBA’s top players.

Although the dunks come a little less frequently these days, Shaquille O’Neal still can throw down some serious jams. One such instance from the 2008 season was his slam over Andrew Bynum of the Los Angeles Lakers. The Suns set up for an in-bounds play underneath the Lakers basket. O’Neal cut to the basket and took the inbounds pass. In one fluid motion, he grabbed the pass and threw down a two handed dunk over Bynum, who had the rim well defended. It was the definition of an in your face slam dunk.

Another great slam dunk from the 2008 season was pulled off by one of the shortest players in the league. Although only 5’-9”, Nate Robinson of the New York Knicks has established himself as one of the most dynamic dunkers in the game today. One of his best from the 2008 season was his dunk against the Orlando Magic at Madison Square Garden. Robinson went coast to coast and drove down the lane to throw a one-handed dunk over a Magic defender. Given his height, it was the greatest slam dunk made by a player under 6’-0” tall since Spudd Webb.
