The team that has won the most baseball Word Series titles is the New York Yankees and it is not even close. The Bronx Bombers have won World Series title 26 times since they became a professional ball club way back in 1903. Their last World Series title was in 2000. They are the winningest franchise in all sports in North America.
Love them or hate them, the Yankees sure do know how to play baseball. They’ve been lighting up baseball scoreboards across the country and will continue to do so for years to come.
All told, the New York Yankees have visited the World Series thirty nine times, more than twice the runner up. Besides their wins, the Yanks have lost in the World Series title game 13 times. Most recently, their last two trips have resulted in losses both in 2000 and 2003. Even though they have not won in nine years, each year the Yankees start near the top of the list for potential winners. Part of that is their tradition and part of that is their incredible large payroll, which eclipses the next closest team by $70 million per year. At $210 million, they spent about 6 times more than the eventual World Series runner up, the Tampa Bay Rays.
The next five teams with the most world series titles:
St Louis Cardinals
The Cards were welcomed into the league the same year as the Yankees, 1903, and have won the second largest number of world series titles at 10. They won their last World Series title in 2006 and have visited the Fall Classic one other time this decade, losing in 2004.
Oakland Athletics
Surprising to any fan who has started watching baseball in the last 15 years, the A’s are third on the list for most World Series titles. They have a total of 9 titles and their last win was in the middle of a three-year visit to the Fall Classic in 1989. They have appeared in a total of 14 World Series.
Boston Red Sox
Climbing on this list with a total of 7 wins thanks to their most recent baseball world series titles in 2006 and 2004, when they broke a decades-long drought and left the “Curse of the Bambino” far in the past and edged past the New York Yankees in the ALCS, overcoming a 3-0 series disadvantage and a ninth inning deficit.
Los Angeles Dodgers
Also brought into the league in 1903, the Dodgers have won 7 world series titles, the last coming in 1988 with the incredible off-the-injured-list heroics of Kirk Gibson against the A’s in the bottom of the ninth inning of Game 1. The Dodgers have appeared in the Fall Classic a total of 18 times in their history.
San Francisco Giants
There is actually a three-way tie for this spot according to wins. The Giants, Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates all have 6 titles. The Giants get the nod here because they have appeared a total of 17 times, the last in 2002. The other two teams have appear 8 and 7 times, respectively. The Giants last won the series in 1954.
Of course they win a lot of World Series! The have like a go-zillion dollars!
Yea, ok jaggoff, U can’t buy any titles. That’s been established. That’s why they play the games jerky. So swallow your hatred and give credit where credit is due. LOSER!!
THE REASON WHY THE YANKEES ARE SO GOOD IS BECAUSE THEY can afford all the great players they want. the real suprise is with all that talent the yankees havent won a world series lately
Grow up all. ALL pro teams “buy” their players. ALL pro teams are owned by Billionaires/near billionaires. Yankee owners SPEND because they want to win. Other owners DO NOT spend. Not the Yankees fault and this is why they fight the stupid salary cap so much. You want to win in ANYTHING in life, spend money. Want to dream and hope??? Sit on your coach and watch the world pass you buy. I’m an American…I like winners…the Yankees ARE winners! Go Yankees…win 5 more in a row and THEN can get to 32!!!!!!!!!!!
The New York Yankees have always been a good team and they have always had a great coaching staff and trainers. 39 World Series is not going to be that way for long. Soon it will be 40.
Ah man, the Mets and the Dodgers didn’t even make the list!
26 wins out of 36 visits? That’s pretty impressive. It’s like the Pittsburgh Steelers being the only team in the NFL with 6 rings going for number 7.
Let’s hope for more World Series Titles for the Dodgers, and less for the Yankmees!
Its Crazy St.Louis does not have the money to go out and buy these expensive players yet we still are second for most world series we damn near make a run every year just with quality talent and no names and of course the greatest player and baseball Albert Pujols and we will get number 11 this year us against new york and were going to kill em
they are going to win again
How bout the fact that the yankees were tainted when winning against the mets in the world series because of Human Growth Hormones and still have those players on the team which were found using and are still probably using by switching over to something that is legal.
The New York Yankee. The best team money can buy!! Cha Ching
Red Sox suck and now so do the philly’s.. the yankees are the 2009 world series champoins.. i know the phillys would have beaten us in game 6 if they would have kept edro martineze in…. GO YANKEES!!!
