Gabriel Sanchez – Major League Baseball’s big secret!

Gabriel Sanchez - Major League Baseball’s Big Secret!

Gabriel Sanchez, of Cuban descent, was born in Florida on September 2nd 1983. He is currently the first baseman for the Martins. In spring, Marlins fans were debating whether Gaby Sanchez or Logan Morrison should get the job as first baseman, and many fans were surprised when the coach trusted him with this all important position. However, Sanchez has been a phenomenal success this season so far.

His first appearance on the was on April 9 2010, when he hit his first home run of the season. Since then he has gone from strength to strength.

Without doubt Gaby Sanchez is the biggest surprise of this season. Not many people thought that he would turn into Marlins best pure hitter, and one of the best rookies in MLB. His story truly is an amazing one, which for some reason has been barely discussed so far this season. He was nowhere to be found in the preseason predictions for Rookie of the Year and few experts even noticed him before the season began.

This season Gaby Sanchez has some very impressive stats with the Florida Marlins, and he has to be the main contender for the NBL Rookie of the Year Award. His batting average is way ahead of all other NL rookies, at .303 on the season. In addition, he has more hits and a high slugging percentage.

For a rookie, Gaby has incredible patience and discipline at the plate rarely seen amongst NBL players this early in their career. Clearly he is mature beyond his years.

However, many pundits reckon that the other high performing rookie, Jason Heyward, will beat Gaby Sanchez to the Rookie of the Year award. Whilst Heyward has slightly better power numbers compared to Sanchez, Sanchez’s batting average and hits rate is much more impressive.

Stephen Strasburg is another rookie that has had a great season and who could win the Rookie of the Year award. He, like Jason Heyward, is very talented, yet neither of them have really accomplished anything in their careers up to now.

Why are Jason Heyward and Stephen Strasburg getting so much more recognition for their exploits this season than Sanchez? They are being treated not as rookies, but as future hall of famers. This seems to be way of out of proportion, considering how little Major League playing time they have had.

After what he has accomplished so far this season, Sanchez deserves more respect and recognition than he is getting. He is still considered a placeholder for Logan Morrison, but if he maintains his level of play at his current level, he will surely be the staple at first base for the foreseeable future.

It might not happen this season, but without doubt Sanchez will cause a great stir in the baseball world, and finally get all the recognition that he deserves. One thing is for sure, and that is that his name will appear on the baseball scoreboards for many years to come.
