A community of history including a visit by General Washington and part of the path of General Sherman’s “March to the Sea”. Nestled between the Ogeechee and Savannah Rivers, Effingham County is picturesque and lovely. In the heart is Effingham High School, home of the Rebels. You can’t miss it – because their blue and white team colors are everywhere.
Effingham County High School specializes in being tops in sports and music. Their Rebel Regiment Marching Band has competed in a number regional and national competitions and won in a variety of categories. They have wind, jazz and marching bands and a symphonic orchestra. The beauty of music doesn’t end there because they have an incredible array of choirs: men’s, women’s and mixed groups with performances throughout the area. The selection of sports for the kids runs the gamut: Baseball, basketball, cheerleading, gold, soccer, tennis, track and field, volleyball, wrestling, football and fast pitch softball. The girl’s golf team won both the 2009 and 2010 region championships. Cross county boys team won region title in 2009 with the girl’s team, the Lady Rebels, as runner ups in the same year. 2008-2009 brought the ECHS Traditional State Wrestling Title for AAAA to Effingham County High School.
When the topic of baseball is addressed at Effingham County High School, all eyes turn to the speaker. The school believes in and supports what is considered to be America’s main sport. Whether they are working with and helping in the 24 Hours of Baseball fundraisers or involved with coordinating with the Booster Clubs, baseball is a main subject at Effingham County High School. Athletic Director Tim Hood works with Baseball Coach Brett Griffin in all facets of the baseball teams and efforts. All students must maintain good grade averages and be in top physical condition because their baseball team and performance is a reflection of who they are and what their school is all about.
Sports and music aren’t the only two important themes at Effingham County High School. The 2009-2010 year brought a renewed sense of academics to the school. They have added daily learning sessions entitled Commitment to Graduate. Students, Parents and Teachers will be devoting time and effort to the encouragement of learning as well as community identity and commitment. The program is designed to assist in growth for the students in a multifaceted approach.
Effingham County is definitely part of the beautiful old South, but, the area is keeping up with the technology of the future. One of the fastest growing communities in Georgia, anyone moving there will take pride in having their kids attend Effingham County High School.
