At Metter High School, situated in the scenic area of Metter, Georgia, Tigers football is a big deal and a huge priority for the school, the students, and the sports fans. This is a school that takes the sport of football seriously, and the Tigers are trying to bounce back from a few horrible seasons. The last season this football team played was not the best they have ever had, but there were some wins. In the 2007-2008 season and the 2006-2007 season, this high school team lost every game during the season and had a dismal record. Metter High School took steps to offer support and motivation for the football program and team, and one of these was to purchase and install a new electronic football scoreboard 3270. This must have had a positive effect, because during the last season that the Tigers played there were some wins, and that was not the case in the two seasons before this last one. Many high schools and colleges across the state and the country are looking at new scoreboards for a variety of reasons, and upgrading or replacing this much needed equipment can give the school many benefits and advantages.
The first football game that the Tigers played last season, against Portal, ended in a victory for the team, and the scoreboards showed a final score of forty seven to twelve. This success was a welcome change for sports fans who come to watch the Tigers play the game of football. After the first victory, the Tigers slid back a little, and lost the next four games in a row. When they played Claxton, the game ended with the team losing twenty two to thirty, and the sports fans went home in disappointment. The game against Johnson County was next on the schedule, and this game was also a defeat for Metter High School, with the scoreboard reading eleven for the Tigers and fourteen for the opposing team. The losing streak continued when the Tigers faced off against Calvary Day High School, and Calvary won the game twenty to thirty nine. The fourth loss in a row last season was against Montgomery County, when the scoreboards showed the final score of nine to twenty against the Tigers. This four game losing streak may have unsettled some fans, but the Tigers did come back to win the following two games after this.
When Metter High School played both Wheeler County and Jenkins County, the team was victorious and made their loyal sports fans happy. In the game against Wheeler County the tigers won by a substantial lead, with the final results being thirty five for the Tigers and only six for the other team. When the school played Jenkins County, the end score was a little closer and the Tigers did not walk away from this game with a lead as big. Twenty to sixteen was the final score, and the Tigers won by four points. Unfortunately, this was to be the last win of the season for the Metter High School Tigers, and the last three games the football team played were lost. This season may seem like a mediocre one for a football team, but when compared to the previous two seasons when every single game was a loss for the school and team, even a few wins is a definite improvement. The students, faculty, and school support the football program at Metter High School, and the new scoreboard is just one factor, and hopefully this support will pay off in more victories, and seasons which are more successful for the Tigers.
